What’s next for Ford now the Falcon is gone?

Fords Australian manufacturing finished last yearn 2016, ending a proud, 91-years of local manufacturing. A legacy that will to be quickly forgotten inthis country. One of the saddest parts of this think, is the end of the production of the much-loved Falcon;but not all is lost.

As well as havingUsed Falcons still available at the dealership, Ford Australia has confirmed that the new Ford Mondeo will now be the centre of attention foreconomical, 4-door sedans in the Ford range. Ford Falcon vehicle line director David Wilkinson saidNew Mondeo is clearly a new-generation car, good size car It wont replace Falcon but it will beour medium to large car entry.

With the Falcon having such an iconic nameplate in Australia, it seems only right not to replace it outright, but to bring in something that can take over that market. There isntreally a way to replace all those years of motoring history, and there are still a few Falcons aroundwaiting to be snapped up. The very last Falcon ever produced, a 2016 XR6 winter white turbo Sprint, sold at auction in Geelong last year for almost double its retail price. Obviously, there is still someserious love for Falcons out there.

So where does the Mondeo fit? Well, the 2016 Mondeo Trend doesnt match the Falcon in power, but the2.0-litre turbocharged engine does pack some impressive pulling power at 177kW/345Nm, whilemaintaining good combined fuel consumption at 8.2L/100km. Like the Falcon, the Mondeo doesshine on long drives with generous seat sizes, radar cruise control, active steering and all theexpected creature-comforts like USB inputs, heated seats and air-conditioning.

The Mondeo is not here to replace the Falcon, but instead stands in the same spot as a safe familycarin the medium to large car range. Available in several body types and with added extrasavailable with the Ambiente, Titanium, or Trend packages, Mondeo is sure to stamp it’s own mark on the Australian Automotive market.
